Pretzel is a kind of cake that comes from Europe , most likely from Italy . This cake consists of three vertices or entanglement. It tastes salty and slightly sweet. Pretzels are soft and some are hard.
The hard pretzels have been developed into several variations of the shape of the knot that spins up to the straight form of "pretzel stick" (called " Salzstangen " or salt sticks due to salt sprinkled and in Hungary named Ropi ). Pretzel dough is made from wheat flour , water , sugar , and yeast , and sprinkled with coarse salt.
Pretzels are usually coated with gloss and salted. Pretzels can be found in several variations of shape and size. Traditional soft pretzels are about the size of a hand. Most hard pretzels are just 2-3 mm thick sticks. Hard pretzels that are 0.8-1.5 cm thick are called the Bavarian pretzels. In parts of Europe such as Austria , traditional pretzels often contain cumin seeds mixed with dough.
In the United States , pretzels are a popular cake, Pennsylvania is the hub of history and producers of pretzels. A variation in America is a pretzel coated with yogurt (or "ghost face"), with a thin layer of yoghurt. Loud pretzels are also available with chocolate-covered sweeties, strawberries, and other flavors. Chocolate-coated hard pretzels are also very popular, especially around Christmas . Some other possibilities in the presentation are by dipping pretzels in mustard .
Pretzels are common in southern Germany ( Swabia , Baden , and Bavaria ), and Switzerland . In those places pretzels are often sliced horizontally, given butter , and sold as butter pretzels. In Bavaria they eat pretzels for breakfast, with white sausage sauce. In Hungary pretzels of that type are called perec .
Resources provide different information for the original time and place where pretzels were created. The History of Science and Technology , by Bryan Bunch and Alexander Hellemans, claims that in the year 610 after Christ. an Italian priest finds pretzels as gifts for children learning his prayers. He calls it the line of burnt dough, folded to resemble the arms crossed on the chest, 'pretiola' ("small gift"). However, no source refers back to this detail. Documentation shows that the shape of pretzel cake is used in the guild shop badges / symbols in southern Germany since 1111 after Christ. In the 12th century after Christ, Hirtus deliciarum from southwestern Germany Alsace / Elsash.
